South Suburban YMCA

Description

South Suburban was built circa 1951 as a YMCA facility, and in 1982 it was extended with 120-unit residential units. The building poised performance issues for the owner, having a very high energy consumption, in need of upgraded HVAC with better control, improved comfort, and improved ventilation. BEC assessed the existing conditions and performance issues for the enclosure and mechanical systems prior to design and renovation. During the site visit it was apparent that the building was overheating with interior surface temperatures in excess of 100F, with exterior surface temperature approximately 50F to 60F. BEC developed and provided recommendations for the design and renovation team to improve the building and tackle the performance concerns.
